Project overview
A closed-off 1990s kitchen opened to the living room, with a new island, relocated range, and lighting planned around how the family actually cooks.
- Open the wall between kitchen and living room
- Add an island with seating and prep space
- Improve lighting over the work surfaces
- Support a new appliance package without overloading the service
The challenge
The wall being removed carried both structure and several circuits feeding the rest of the main floor, and the panel was close to full before any new appliance circuits were added.
The Webb approach
Structural support was engineered and installed first, the affected circuits were rerouted properly rather than extended, and the panel was upgraded as part of the same project so the new kitchen had the capacity it needed.
Scope of work
- Demolition of existing cabinets, counters, and flooring
- Structural beam installed to remove the dividing wall
- Plumbing relocation for the sink and dishwasher
- Range hood vented to the exterior
- Cabinet installation and countertop coordination
- Backsplash tile, flooring, trim, and paint
- Permits and inspections
Electrical component
- Load calculation for the new appliance package
- Dedicated circuits for range, oven, dishwasher, and disposal
- GFCI-protected counter circuits and island receptacles
- Recessed, pendant, and under-cabinet lighting on separate switching
- Existing circuits rerouted around the removed wall
